Administration halts prosecution of alleged USS Cole bomber

From the Washington Post, a most disturbing notice that the anointed one's consigliares are not going to pursue this case... Have they lost their freakin minds?

The Obama administration has shelved the planned prosecution of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the alleged coordinator of the Oct. 2000 suicide attack on the USS Cole in Yemen, according to a court filing.

The decision at least temporarily scuttles what was supposed to be the signature trial of a major al-Qaeda figure under a reformed system of military commissions. And it comes practically on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the attack, which killed 17 sailors and wounded dozens when a boat packed with explosives ripped a hole in the side of the warship in the port of Aden.

In a filing this week in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, the Justice Department said that "no charges are either pending or contemplated with respect to al-Nashiri in the near future."

The statement, tucked into a motion to dismiss a petition by Nashiri's attorneys, suggests that the prospect of further military trials for detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, has all but ground to a halt, much as the administration's plan to try the accused plotters of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in federal court has stalled.

Philadelphia Cheesesteak Shop Owner Defends 'Order in English' Policy

While I personally like Pat's (Pat's King of Steaks) better than Geno's (across the street), I have to give Joe all the props in the world on this one. God bless and good luck trying to convince the morons in City Hall to understand...

Saturday , December 15, 2007PHILADELPHIA — A small sign that asked customers to order in English at a famous cheesesteak shop was never meant to be offensive, the shop's owner testified Friday at a hearing to decide whether the policy was discriminatory.Joe Vento, the owner of Geno's Steaks, defended his policy before the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations, which filed the discriminationcomplaint. "This country is a melting pot, but what makes it work is the English language," Vento told the commission. "I'm not stupid. I would never put a sign out to hurt my business."

Court Orders Navy to Lessen Sonar Harm to Whales

I saw this headline and I thought, that's one of the most absurd things I've ever read... commentary follows the absurdities...

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - AP SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court on Tuesday ordered the U.S. Navy to lessen the harm its high-power sonar does to whales and other marine life during exercises off the Southern California coast.

Funny, I didn't realize that the Department of Justice overruled or had oversght authority when it came to the military of the US of Freakin A!!

The 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals sent the matter to a trial judge in Los Angeles to figure out exactly how to fix the problem it says is apparent with the sonar.

One would think before they ruled on an issue that the Court would have the facts and information needed to make a reasonable judgement. Oh, right. We're dealing with California!
